Is it true that you can feed trees with sugar?

Our Advice:

Research workers have discovered that by feeding newly-planted trees with a weak solution of sugar and water will help them to establish more quickly. The sugar appears to promote rapid growth of new roots and the development of fine 'feeder' roots, which are very important for the uptake of nutrients and water.
