Thrips

Image of Thrips

Description

Also called thunder flies, these are narrow-bodied insects about 2mm in length, yellowish-brown or blackish-brown in colour. They feed by sucking sap from leaves and flowers.

Symptoms

Damaged leaves are often a dull green with a silvery-white discoloration on the upper surface. Flower petals often display white markings. High populations of this pest can leave flowers and shoot tips severely distorted. Some thrips can transmit viruses as they feed on plants.

What next...

Now you know what the problem is, and the damage it is doing, don't let your plant suffer.
