Froghopper

Image of Froghopper

Description

These sap-sucking insects are about 7mm long, ranging from greenish-yellow to brownish yellow in colour. They have prominent eyes and strong back legs which allow them to ‘hop’ when disturbed.

Symptoms

A white frothy liquid (often called cuckoo spit) is secreted by the juveniles of the froghopper as they feed and can be seen on young stems and leaves of a range of plants in late spring and summer. The individual blobs of liquid contain a creamy white young nymph about 5mm long. The shoot tips of young plants may appear distorted with ‘torn’ leaves where insect has been feeding.

What next...

Now you know what the problem is, and the damage it is doing, don't let your plant suffer.
