Growing your own saves £268 a year

According to new research many Britons are saving an average £268 a year by growing some of their own fruit and vegetables, with residents in Wolverhampton saving £579 per year more than twice the national average. In a survey commissioned by The Edible Garden Show the most popular crops were; tomatoes (59%), herbs (51%), strawberries (46%), potatoes (42%), lettuce (36%), onions (29%), peas (24%), raspberries (23%) and chilies (20%) In the last five years 65% of people nationwide have grown some of their own produce and 56% are planning to in 2016. While money saving is important factor for 40%, the health benefits and taste were also major considerations. With 23% seeing 'Grow Your Own' as a family activity and are growing with either their children or grandchildren.
