New Year Update

Cabbage seedlings for the Miracle Gro'wers Chelsea Exhibit 2016 are nicely established at Holtspur School, Beaconsfield, Bucks. The mild December and early January weather has helped. Note bags of compost in background with germinating carrots that need the tops cut back to let in light. Lettuce 'Winter Density' seedlings are growing well at Galleywood Infant School and will be planted out shortly in the poly tunnel border soil. Notice carrot seedlings well up in the tall pots at the back. The seedlings are too thick and you can see the seedlings to the left in the left hand pot have been thinned. Schools growing carrots in bag pots for the Chelsea Flower Show Miracle-Gro'wers Exhibit may need to scissor off an inch or two from the top of the bag to let more light reach the emerging seedlings. Leave enough to allow a centimetre or so of additional compost to be added in due course to prevent the top of the developing carrots going green.
