Constant Rhubarb

We have always been told “Don’t pick rhubarb after June”, well not any more. Next year a new variety called ‘Poulton’s Pride’ will be on sale, and if you grow this variety you can harvest rhubarb up to 10 months of the year. The red flushed stalks have a sweet flavour with hints of almond, banana and pineapple in evidence. ‘Poulton’s Pride’ is not like any other rhubarb because it does not go dormant in the summer, so if you force it, you can start pulling sticks in February and harvest on until November. This rhubarb is British bred, and is named after its home town in Lancashire, one of the country’s most prominent rhubarb growing areas.
